April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball players to win medals at many Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to claim her third Olympic medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is also hoping to win her first Olympic gold. At 39, this could be her last opportunity to claim the Olympic gold. Her confidence is high but she is not sure. Ross on NBC Boston, said that when the team performs very well, or even at all, they could win a gold. Also, I am going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents as well as her sister were residents there. Her athletic career was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she was a part of a number of activities. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements as a prep athlete. While she did well when playing indoors, it was clear that her abilities were higher than normal. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. She was awarded one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999 for her achievements. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman are performing their roles in 2017. The reality is that Ross was an important player in the beach volleyball scene before the pairing. In reality, she's had numerous big wins as well as one of her partners was an all-star volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until the year 2013. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the 2009 World Championships. The duo were awarded silver medals at the London Olympic Games. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, overtaking them. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement after she had retired. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college years after she graduated high school. This was an impressive career for Ross in the university. As a freshmen in 2000, her play earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. She also helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss during her sophomore year, however, she was successful in achieving the All-American award. In her last two seasons in the Trojans' program they won success by winning two the national title in consecutive years. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the very top of beach volleyball stardom. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast when she was in her sophomore year at USC. She continues to cherish her parents who passed away. Margie at the beach as well as in everyday life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
